Something about this movie...

Revolutionary Road

Maybe it's just because Rose and Jack are together again, but this seems like such a masterpiece. I think the soundtrack makes it especially captivating (in the trailer, at least).

HAPPY NEW YEARS EVERYBODY!
Hope you all have sloppy make out sessions with awkward partners at midnight.

Rock Climba

My sister, brother and I proceed to go "bouldering" today at our neighborhood boulder field.

Or so that was our intention. However, if you minimize that rock in the picture by a couple square feet and pretend the man is jumping onto the boulder instead of climbing it - then you get a good idea of the day's activities. Regardless, I fell squarely on my face and my sister severely bruised her tibia.

We also unsuccessfully tried to make a fire by chipping off magnesium from a MG block my sister carries around (no idea why she has a block of magnesium tied to her keychain) and sparking the flakes with a knife.

We then proceed to hike back to the car, drive to Wawa, get hoagies, and eat them in the wilderness pretending we actually hunted, skinned, and smoked the turkey that laid in my hoagie.

Survival of the fittest, people. Darwin would be proud.

Lenka - The Show

I love whimsical, girly music (i.e. Feist, Cat Power, Jenny Lewis), especially when I can relate to the songs. The Show by Lenka is somewhat perfect. Of course the video, which is super cute, isn't letting me embed.. but you can watch it here. Or just listen to this live version-

Do it Now // How I Spent My Eve de Christmas

This song will forever make me think of being drunk in NYC. I have always had Hot Chip on my iTunes and have heard this particular song many times sober when I went through a hot chip phase but have often woken up with "do it do it do it do it do it now" in the google searchbar on my iPhone after nights out, I guess I didn't know what the song was and googled lyrics at the bar, solidifying myself as the Queen of Lame.

And if you're reading this from bed and want to slow things down a little. Here's Duffy's version.

Also, t-2.5 til Christmas! I like to go to bed early because the earlier I go to bed the sooner Christmas comes = opening presents. I'm not expecting anything special this year (my parents are trying to carry over last Christmas' Michele watch, I know they are), but it's a recession and Christmas is just for being wit your family, right? I forgot the h on the end of with right there, but I'm just gonna roll with it.

My Christmas eve consisted of:
-playing Wii tennis (see last post), some bowling mixed in
-shoving my face with cookies (diet starts Friday)
-staring at my grandfather and his new wife whom he met on an airplane (???)
-watching last episode of the hillz- was justin bobby wearing overalls?
-purposefully falling asleep during Burn After Reading (saw it already)
-getting yelled at by my mom for wearing full sweatsuit/uggs all day. ("dont you care what you like like in front of us?" no.) don't worry i only break out the uggs in PA.
-discussing future Wii competitions with max
-getting really into a game of Wheel Of Fortune with my grandparents VOWELS ARE THE ENEMY,
-trying to convince my mom and sister (therapist) i have ADHD
-calling my dog Will.i.am (his name is willie), googled how to turn him into hologram for when i'm not at home and miss him --> hologrammed pets am i on to something?
-dodging the question "so what do you do at your job?" when anyone asked it
-also dodging any kind of questions about NYC like "what do you eat for dinner?" (um, oatmeal with m&ms).
-begging my mom to let me open NEW MOON (the next in the Twilight series) because she got it for me for xmas, reading the first 4 pages and then putting it down (ADHD)
-secretly opening my Aunt Susie's christmas card (American Express!) and then resealing it. Livin' la vida BADASS

And that's it. I'm rambling. BUT THAT'S WHAT BLOGS ARE FOR! Rambling and Narcissistic Immaturity. Narcissistic Immaturity is an underlying theme throughout most of my blog posts, that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

S, are you out there? Are you reading this? Merry Christmas!!

The Jetsons

So I come home for Christmas and my parents are playing on their new Wii (which I had no idea they had purchased?) with avatars set to look like them exactly.

Oh, also, they are playing against their friends who are at home with their own wiis.

Beyonce vs. Fleet Foxes

Just when I start losing hope for mankind I come across something like this. People are so funny, ya know? Just funny.

I love this. Beyonce, Queen of all things Sexual mixed with Fleet Foxes, by far one of the best bands out right now. I want to find out who is responsible for this and then marry him (if it's a her we can just be friends that's cool).

iPhone Screenshots = Fun!

Once a Bro, Always a Bro.

And yes I like to request my friends talk to me on AIM.
Computers > Phones

life is just a storm you're braving

Glaring insecurities. Hearing that made me cry. Not because I have anger towards something assuming to know my inner being but because it was refreshing to know that someone can see behind the shell I place around me. Yes. I do have insecurities. Everyone does. Glaring? Perhaps to some.

But I do appreciate the people in my life that think differently than I do and share with me their train of thoughts so I can learn. Learn about myself. About the people around me. Learn about viewing and living life on several different planes.

Thank you to those who do just that.

BTW: Picture above is of my never-to-be tattoo because my angel of a twin sister won't be marking up her porcelain skin with ink. Who's in favor of forcing this one upon her? I have several extra shoelaces and some Robitussin with codeine that could be good for a quality kidnapping-a-la-force-able-tattooing.

If I could be anyone in the entire world right now I would hands down be Charlize Theron in the J'Adore Dior commercial. When I was at the Dior counter in Macy's last weekend I found myself staring at posters of her and muttering to the sales lady "Charlize... is..so..so..just so.. beautiful." S can attest for this. Ch-ch-ch-changes

When I woke up this morning I felt lonelier than I have in my entire life.

Plan of Action: Stop drinking for a while, get hot and fit back into, oh, my entire wardrobe, and find a boyfriend. Possible places to meet boys not in bars:

1) gym (that would never happen though)
2) walking in central park (that would never happen though)
3) on a subway (that would never happen though)
4) missed connection on craigslist (that would never happen though)
5) set up by a friend (this may happen but probably would never happen though)
6) eHarmony (i'd rather kill myself)
7) Match.com (i'd rather kill myself)
8) Poking random people in the New York, NY network on facebook (it couldn't hurt).

Yeah, I'm gonna be single forever.

UPDATE: Signing up for this shit. So is S. HELLO SEXINESS AND NEW-FOUND INNER CONFIDENCE!! It's all women though, won't be meeting any strapping lads there.

Cat Wine

I was in Jersey coming home from a 90 degree summer day at Six Flags. Which basically equals hell on earth and we needed to soothe our sunburned souls with the good stuff.

Let's just say that the Garden State has a superb liquor store selection and we happened to cross the holy grail of alcohol on our way home. And this is what I found...

Cat Wine.

This stuff is bangin. Like literally I have no idea what kind of wine it is but it's puurrfect (apologies all around for that one). Made in Germany by the Moselland-Wine Company.

I thought it was super hard to find but some cat-lovin lady proved me wrong when I happened to come across this little gem on the Internet:

Mmmm. Collecting cat wine bottles - quality hobby. Fits right in there with my toenail collection.

..and that's how Oprah killed my mother.

(To preface this, I asked my mom what I should get her and my dad for Christmas. This is the exact convo that followed)

My Mom:
We don't want you to buy us a thing.
Write us a poem or letter or make us a card.

Me: write you a letter? that's weird

My Mom: well, Oprah recommends it as a nice present to someone.

Me: if Oprah told you to jump off of a bridge, would you do it?

My Mom:
Probably.

-A

Awesome.

I'm a twin. When I say this, the next question people always ask is if we're identical. That's really a question I can't anwser as the doctor that delivered was basically a crackhead and never took blood tests. I always say that we are, it sounds cooler.

So my sister is like some freak of nature. She graduated high school with a 4.1 or something GPA. She studied for thirty minutes for AP tests while I studied 3 hours and still received a worse grade. She was captain of her track team, basketball team, and maybe soccer team. She won numerous scholarships upon graduation of highschool. Went to college and schooled half the people in her class. She's graduating in the top three of an intensive 5-year Landscape Architechture program. Her initials even spell her m-fing name. Can we say gifted?

And now the biotch just won a scholarship to go to Mexico City. What? Who's giving these kind of scholarships away to people who don't need them. This girl is like God's love child. This severely makes me regret the amount of money spent on her Christmas present.

I'm literally steaming with major jeal.

(Proud of you. Much love Ame.)

I Am My Own Starbucks

So the other night I was boiling water to make a packet of Swiss Miss diet hot chocolate that has been sitting in my closet (yes, closet) since this summer. My mom thought it was a good idea to buy a huge Sam's Club box of it.

Anyway, I forgot I was going to drink the hot chocolate and brushed my teeth in preparation for bedtime. But then I remembered the H.C. and wanted it anyway. My mouth still tasted like toothpaste.

Anyway, it tasted a lot like a Starbucks Peppermint Mocha twist. Seriously, half way through the cup of hot chocolate. But for free and like 400 less calories.

I am my own Starbucks.

Feel Good Sunday / A Christmassy Weekend

So far this weekend has been lovely, and a Sunday without a hangover is pure gold.

A good song for today, I don't care how tween it is:

Meiko - How Lucky We Are (the only non-live version I could find).

This movie will be seen later, keeping with a Christmassy weekend:

Nothing Like the Holidays.

My mom is making a family holiday card and wants pictures of my sister and I doing Christmassy things in the cities we reside in. So she has a picture of my sister ice skating in Chicago. I sent her this with the caption "Suicidal in Macy's!" I hope she uses it. Doubtful.

Gym time, believe it.
P.S. Today I made a dark chocolate/strawberry oatmeal creation. I need to start entering oatmeal contests

SANTACON 2008

This Saturday, prepare to don your red, drink like a merry man, and suckle on those candy canes. IT'S THE SANTA CONVENTION.

Check the site here. They'll post meeting time by 10pm today for tomorrow's bar crawl.

There are rules people. Some of my fav:

Don't be "that" Santa.
Your friends want to have fun, not scrape the puke outta your beard or prevent your wasted ass from wandering into traffic.

Santa does not make children cry (unless they whine, snivel, or otherwise deserve it).
Really - If you see kids, give them nice toys, candy, or something pleasant. Feel free to urinate on the parents. Tourists fall somewhere in between the two -- adjust depending on their attitude.

Santa is responsible for his own inebriation.
SantaCon is not a bar crawl, it's a convention. There will be bar stops, but they will be crowded. Santa does not advocate breaking open container laws! Santa's just sayin'...

Boy am I excited to see red sweat-suited drunken pervs walking the streets of NYC.

NERD

So A's Xanga post got me creepin the Internet for everyone's old Xang. I too reveled in the sad world of putting all my hopes and dreams into a gawdy, obnoxiously written format. The Queen of Xanga however was my current roomie and friend since 4 years of age, KD.

Her finest post is below. I have reason to believe that we were 19 and in college. Let's just say that the summer of sophomore year was questionable in terms of our maturity as we were addicted, literally addicted to the show Beauty and the Geek. And it just so happens that we saw our fav Geek, Bill at our neighboorhood cracked-out movie theater. Ah, the good old days.

Dear S --

"When we're incomplete, we're always searching for somebody to complete us. When, after a few years or a few months of a relationship, we find that we're still unfulfilled, we blame our partners and take up with somebody more promising. This can go on and on - series polygamy - until we admit that while a partner can add sweet dimensions to our lives, we, each of us, are responsible for our own fulfillment. Nobody else can provide it for us, and to believe otherwise is to delude ourselves dangerously and to program for eventual failure every relationship we enter."

That is a quote for you to chew on.

Virgins

S, FOB/Certified Badass Alex D., some other neat lay-deeeez and I are going to The Virgins concert in a couple of days here in el ciudad. Not a HUGE fan or anything, and I'm pretty sure their album is in solid rotation at the CW Headquarters as Gossip Girl soundtrack music.. and also played in mall stores like Hollister / Abercrombie for awkward tweens. But tickets were only $15 and after a couple of Blueberry Stoli-and-diets (shoutout K.D.) I'm sure it'll be a good time. And the venue is cool (Bowery Ballroom), and the show is sold out at least.

Rich Girls -- Official Video

One Week of Danger (just song).

And speaking of awkward tweens, you can check out their myspace here.

Speaking of Hungover

NY Mag has an article about how my fellow females are consuming an intense amount of alcohol these days. In the world of NYC, alcohol is basically the second food group to cupcakes.

"Drinking is our go-to activity. Meeting a friend implies going to a bar. Having a meal implies a round of cocktails beforehand. A party implies a serious hangover"

For some reason, the article relates this increase of intoxication to the feminist theory that drinking equals power for many women. The power to work hard and play hard in many male dominated industries.

I say true on some accounts and false on others. The S theory is a little different - it could potentially boil down to the idea that when you work till 4 in the morning and sit for 17 hours in a chair, who wouldn't want to kick back the vodka? No feminist theory, no shenanigans regarding power, just plain and simple - the need to release, drink up, and have fun.

Random Thoughts

I was zoning out hardcore on the subway this evening and I think that Gossip Girl (which is on tonight t-36 minutes!) should have a spinoff show called Rumor Lady which takes place in an old people home and deals with the scandalous lives of the elderly. This will be a cool home though, think grandpas playing Wii and grannies wearing vintage Chanel.

Potential plots:
-Cheating at gin rummy / placing bets = creating enemies
-Love affairs. Husband & wife couples homewrecked by widows
-Drug/pill smuggling, obviously
-Like on Gossip Girl where the rumors/gossip gets posted on that website, there will be a cork board outside of the dining area where the hippest grandma (but also anonymous) will get her clique to tack up the day's news before evening tea before bedtime (8pm).

If "Rumor Lady" doesn't fly as a title, another possibility could be "The Home"

This stems from my idea of a clothing store for older people that is a spinoff of Forever 21, called Forever 58. Which is a more mature, older version of Forever 21.

I may delete this post in a few hours because it's embarrassing so if you're one of the lucky few who get to read it I'm sorry.

Slumdog Millionaire.

A and I went to see Slumdog Millionaire last night and it was incred. Watch that shiz.

Not only was the movie fab but the soundtrack was dope (roll back to the 1990's for that adjective). Renowned composer A.R. Rahman laid the music (he's known as the "Indian Timbaland") and some of his stuff features the talented and currently pregnant MIA.

Check it below:
